Clothing of the American Mind

Clothing of the American Mind (COTAM) is a socially responsible, progressive apparel company, based in Los Angeles. Owned and operated by two progressive female activists, Caitlin Blue and Carly Miller, COTAM is "deeply committed to promoting and encouraging social responsibility and political consciousness". Considering that the company was just born in 2004, they have been doing very big things. In its recent history, COTAM has participated in numerous movements, including participating in a cross-country voter registration campaign, hosting Fashion 4 Change to raise awareness about Fair Trade, and donating hundreds of brand new shirts to the local homeless community as well as those displaced from Hurricane Katrina. COTAM has received much press from magazines such as Glamour, Elle, InStyle, Entertainment Weekly, People, and URB.

Another thing that caught our eye is how their new "Stop Wars" T-shirt [available in Mens and Womens] is made with certified 100% organic cotton. They definitely walk the walk when it comes to their mission. In addition to producing American-made sweatshop-free clothing, a portion of their profits are donated directly to reputable progressive causes.

In their own words, "Clothing of the American Mind is much more than just another Bush-bashing t-shirt line; it's promoting activism as a way of life. Activism which is sometimes as simple as putting on a t-shirt in the morning". People seem to be catching on to the fast-growing company. Among their supporters are many well-known activists and celebrities, including David Arquette & Courteney Cox Arquette, Matthew Broderick, Sheryl Crow, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kristin Davis, Ellen DeGeneres, Tom Hanks, Arianna Huffington, Diane Lane, Debra Messing,Natalie Portman, Anne Ramsay, Mark Ruffalo, Cindy Sheehan, Hilary Swank, Marisa Tomei, Amber Valletta, Reese Witherspoon, Evan Rachel Wood, Howard Zinn and countless others.
